About bottle brush trees and tabletop trees

Most of this room is bottlebrush: sisal trees on small wood bases, sold singly or in sets of three to twelve. Mini bottle brush trees start around 4 inches, for a windowsill, a tray, or a cake stand. The larger ones, 15 to 20 inches, hold their own on a mantel.

The colors go well past green. There are snowy tips, blush, mustard, blue, tan, and burgundy, and some sets come trimmed with jingle bells, mushrooms, glittered bulbs, or tiny ornaments.

Beyond the bottlebrush: ivory feather trees from 18 to 48 inches, rattan, felt, velvet, and paper cone trees, ceramic trees with colored lights, and faux snowy hemlocks up to 4 feet. Plaid tree skirts and star toppers live here too.

What size bottle brush trees should I buy?

Sets of small trees, 4 to 9 inches, look right grouped close on a tray, a shelf, or a windowsill. For a mantel, mix two or three heights and let one tree of 12 inches or more anchor the group.

What is a feather tree?

An old-fashioned style of tree, first made in 19th-century Germany, with sparse branches spaced so each ornament hangs on its own. Ours are made of metal, plastic, and wood rather than real feathers, in ivory from 18 to 48 inches and a 48-inch green.

Do any of the trees light up?

A few: lighted green bottlebrush sets, ceramic trees with colored lights, lighted grapevine cone trees, and a small porcelain light-up tree. The lighted bottlebrush sets and the ceramic trees with colored lights have a six-hour timer.
