About Christmas picks and sprays
The room for filling in. Christmas picks are short, about 9 to 18 inches, made to tuck into a wreath, a garland, or a centerpiece. Sprays run longer, up to 29 inches, for a vase or a mantel line. Hanging bushes and half balls work on their own.
The faux pine comes in many kinds: Douglas fir, prickly pine, long needle, soft-touch Norfolk, weeping cedar, white spruce, and hemlock. Some are frosted, some glittered, and many carry pinecones or red berries.
For a kitchen wreath, there are candy cane picks and a gingerbread pick. A bag of snowy pinecones, white glittered pinecones, and gold beaded and draping picks add a little shine.
How do I add picks to a wreath?
Push the stem in at an angle, following the direction of the greenery, and twist it around the frame if it needs to hold. Picks grouped in threes or fives look more natural than picks spaced evenly.
What’s the difference between a pick and a spray?
Length and use. A pick is short and made to tuck into something else. A spray is longer and branches out, so it can stand in a vase or lie along a mantel on its own.
